(What scripture has to say about widows?) Exodus 22:22-24 “Do not take advantage of a widow or an orphan. If you do and they cry out to me, I will certainly hear their cry. My anger will be aroused, and I will kill you with the sword; your wives will become widows and your children fatherless.”

Defend the cause of the fatherless and plead the case of the widow. Isaiah 54:4-5 “Do not be afraid; you will suffer no shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. Such men will be punished most severely.” Acts 6:1-7 In those days when the number of disciples were increasing, the Grecian Jew among them. complained about the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. So the twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order for us to wait tables. Brothers chose seven men from among you who are know to be full of spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention over to prayer and the ministry of the word. They presented these men to the apostles who prayed and laid their hands on them. So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith. I Timothy 5:3-9,16 Honor widows who are really widows. But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God. Now she who is really a widow, and left alone, trusts in God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day. But she who lives in pleasure is dead while she lives. And these things command, that they may be blameless. But if anyone does not provide for his own, especially for those of his household, he had denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. If any believing man or woman has widows, let them relieve them, and do not let the church be burdened, that it may relieve those who are really widows. I Timothy 5:16 If any woman who is a believer has widows in her family, she should help them and not let the church be burdened with them, so that the church can help those widows who are really in need. James 1:27 Religion (worship) that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
